Football.
First team played in Division One until Christmas when it became untenable to continue, due to the disruption caused by injuries, the new manager(s) and the disruption that this caused to the reserve team.
Junior’s section seems to be strong thanks for the work of Paul Beck and his managers. They do run almost independently. Once again we should try and bring them under the club umbrella, an request attendance at meetings etc.
They have asked to share the football pitch for some games.
Cricket:
A strong season for both sides. a mid-table finish for the first XI in Division Three and a third position for the 2nd XI that saw them promoted to the newly restructure league, to a ‘new’ Div 7 of 8.
Netball:
After being promoted last season, were relegated this. However, this is thought by many to be a favourable outcome.
However, the overriding issue of the year has been players’ availability. This seems to be a problem across all sport as we have come out of the COVID-19 pandemic. It must be the club’s priority to do everything it can to preserve what we have, in terms of squads of players, and to move the club forward.
The club has fantastic facilities, in terms of grounds and equipment. So we must promote this and the spirit of the club to bolster support in all areas.
The club is further investing in the catering/bar facilities at the pavilion
The chairman stated that it was is intention to step down as soon as possible, but would however, continue until a willing and acceptable candidate could be found.
With the exception of the treasurer, the previous officers were nominated “en bloc” and seconded unanimously.
President (Stephen Norman)
Chairman (Paul Baines)
Vice-Chairman (Ian Pearce)
Secretary (David Gilliver)
Prior to the meeting Jo Prideaux had informed the club, that due to herself and Ian moving to Japan for ‘a number of years’ that she would not be able to carry out her duties during this time. Thus, the club has sought for a replacement.
Treasurer: Adam Voller, Proposed by Richard Ward, Seconded by Paul Baines and carried unanimously
Vice-Presidents – No Changes
Life-Members - No changes
The financial year 2022/23 was another full of sporting activity with the effects of COVID seemingly behind us. However, the football season had considerable volatility with changes in management and players led ultimately to our self imposed suspension of our 1st XI at Christmas. This led to a reduction in football income; with football fines not being chased up and penalties for withdrawing from the competition. We also saw a huge reduction from the junior section (£1,590). It is unclear if this is due to a reduction in the number of juniors or if they simply managing their funds themselves?
The financial year ended with a decrease in funds of £7,563.
This was due to the reduction in football income identified above and a number of factors identified below:
Increase in electricity costs - £1,562 (total expenditure was nearly 3 times the amount of the previous year)
New mower purchase - £8,000
The firework display was a success for the club again, bringing in a total profit for the night of £5,558. This was down on the previous year’s profits made up of lots of small contributing factors, increase in costs (nearly £800 more for the display) and slightly down on ticket revenues (£700, although numbers seem to be similar). We also purchased a PA system for the event.
At the end of the financial year the club had funds of £46,124.
The club is still in a healthy financial position. Increase in costs such as utilities and fuel are likely to impact the club. A major project is also underway to improve the kitchen facilities at the cricket pavilion within the next financial year.

The chairman thanked the treasurer for such a comprehensive set of accounts and for all the work she had done during hers years of being our treasurer. It is a great comfort that through such difficult times the club has the financial capability to overcome them. The backing of its members, and the fact that we are a sports club, allows us to smooth out the waves from any section of the club.
Players: There was much discussion on the dilemmas that many sports clubs such as ours has in recruiting players. It was suggested that we should heighten our social media presence. It was agreed it was up to everyone to use every opportunity to promote the club and make all new members most welcome.
Ultimately, we are here to enjoy everything we do, via playing sports.
Football AGM: It was agreed to bring this AGM forward to Wednesday, 14th June 2023 at the Hut
As there was no other business the meeting closed at 9:15pm

Post Script – a motion for the next appropriate meeting
In the absence of a motion to change or maintain our yearly subscription of £25, this will be ratified at the next meeting
