WEST FARLEIGH SPORTS CLUB CRICKET AGM
MINUTES
Tuesday 19th October 2021 at 8 o’clock in the Pavilion
The sale of the ground was discussed.
The meeting was informed of its sale to IP, who purchased the ground for £80,000 in August this year and it was the Club’s intention to pay him back in full by this coming Christmas. The Club has allocated £35k of its funds towards this and, so far, a further +£40k has been sourced from local people and organisations, and if there was any shortfall, the club will allocate more away from other projects etc. to complete the transfer.
A huge debt of gratitude was bestowed to IP for what he has done to help the Club in this regard, allowing the process to go through so smoothly and to take on of the burden of all of the fees both in its purchase and its transfer into the Club’s hands.
The incumbents were re-elected unopposed
Note Alan Smith took over from Darren McGrath as 2nd XI vice-captain during the season, and in the interest of continuity, it was agreed to keep the status quo
We did no use last year’s slots as they were cancelled due to the Covid lockdown. Trevor will ask Sutton Valance on the plans for this year, when the time is right. Ideally, in March and April.
Good Friday as per usual, for a thorough clean, as always it is hoped that more of the players take responsibility for taking on a fair share of all of the tasks. Further duties will take place before every home game to do all the weekly jobs that needs doing. Players are asked to be at the ground one hour before the games to “do the necessary”.
A good start has been made on the cricket net and the new car park area. Thanks to those who have put n the work, and to Rookery Estates.
The net area needs to be completed. It has been slightly more complicated (expensive) than initially thought. Bill to work out a new budget needed so it can be put to the committee. The aim is to finish in time for the new season. All that is thought that is now needed is, a French drain, 2 bay net, shock pad matting, and a 2x roll out cricket surfaces. The bowling ends will need to be consolidated and rolled. With further tidying up of the dividing boundary fence.
Sight Screens.
It was thought that the ‘east’ sightscreen was still doing a good job and offered excellent sightlines.
The demise of the ‘west’ sightscreen will be solved either by purchase of ready made sightscreen (Matt Brooke’s offer of monies towards this being still standing) or using the skills within the club to construct one. (TBD during monthly committee meetings). Note: The league requirement for sightscreens may come into force as soon as the 2023 season.
It was reported by PJB that the remedial works to the thatch, cost £4,600, The thatcher replaced the ridge and the gullies, netting the front and back with chicken wire, and asked for the oak at the rear of the pavilion to be removed of any overhanging branches to prolong the interval before the next repair will be needed. Hopefully in 12 years’ time.
The club is in the 2nd year of the 2-year program of tree pruning, agreed with the council. Three trees have been removed and further lifting, thinning and loping of the remaining trees’ branches will be done over the close season. A further £1200 remains in the budget to do this.
All mowers have been serviced and are working well apart from the John Deere which has a fuel blockage problem, but is ‘in-hand’.
The club will compete in Divisions 3 and 7. We will try and arrange 2 pre-season friendlies and 3 post-season friendlies. We will compete in the National Village Cup again.
We are losing some players, but it is agreed that we have enough for two teams. One game was conceded due to lack of availability. The banners we have, will be put up in the new year.
The treasurer has not asked for an increase.
The club subs to remain at £25 per annum or £2/game. Players are full voting members when they have paid one year’s subs and are up-to-date with their financial commitments to the club.
Cricket match tax remains the same. For ’40 over games’ this is at £10 per game. Teas will be charged at £3/tea
The club has 2 card readers available for use by all sports teams.
11. Teas
The league will allow clubs to make up their own minds whether to provide teas or not. It was asked whether we should go back to making teas again next season. It was agreed that we should.
12. AOB
12.1 An end of season social, and prize-giving is being scheduled by BN for sometime in November
12.2 PJB stated that it was the Club’s intention to put the ownership of the cricket ground into a trust. This to ensure it remain as a cricket ground for the benefit of the Sports Club and the community.
Meeting closed at 9.50pm
