Marden (H) League Lost the toss and were put into bat. On a flat but very soft pitch after a day of rain, batting was not going to be easy, and when we arrived at 20 for 5, any sort of score was hoped for. Come to the crease, Skipper Smith (62no) and Ian Prideaux (51) seeing a 99 run (potentailly match winning) stand, and from there reaching 159 off the shortened 35 over format. In reply, Marden found the going difficult especially against Les Watkins (1 for 19 off 10), at the other end they were able to reach the boundary far more often. However, our downfall in the game (as it has too often been) was our catching. This day the ball followed Richard Truelove more than most and nothing stuck, but a similar number (4) went to others, and they fared no better. Just taking one may have been enough to see us home but it was not be as they reached our score with 2 overs to spare. Another great improvement on what was an excellent season last year. Long may it continue, and there is no reason why it shouldn't. Well done everyone. PJB 30 aug 08 willesborough (A) league lost the toss and were put in the field. Tight bowling saw the opposition eek out 50 for 1 at the drinks interval, and from there did very well to post 177. In reply at 95 for 1 at drinks we were cruising but, the next ball after the break was the beginning of the fall of steady wickets, eventually being skittled out for 136. Only ourselves to blame, but it will have no effect on our finishing position in the league. PJB 23 Aug 08 Selsted (A) League Lost the toss and were put in. 0 for 2, then 32 for 4 was not the start we wanted but then Senthil Muniyasamy(97) and Richard Truelove(51) put on a 150+ partnership to win the day. In reply, they at one stage were well on track to knock the runs off, but after a couple of wickets fell they, very surprisingly, decided to bat out for a loss#@?, to end up 49 runs short with 4 wicket left intact. PJB 16 Aug 08 Leeds and Broomfield (H) League Lost the toss and were put into bat. At 30 for 5 all looked lost but Senthil(49) and Jack Rollo(36) took the score past 100 and eventually to 144 for 9, not a lot but still a score. In reply, very good bowling restricted Leeds to 52 for 4 off 24 overs, and they never looked comfortable but G Hunt and R Turner turned the game with some gritty batting, eventually reaching our score with 9 balls and 4 wickets to spare. PJB 9 aug 08 Cobham (A) League Won the toss and elected to bat in the drizzle, in a match restricted to 35 overs. In awful conditions we struggled to bat freely, but at 55 for 1 off 20 overs, a big score looked possible so long as we kept our wickets from falling; but from there they did, and we limped to 109 for 6 off by the end. In reply, 2 wickets fell before they reached 40 but from there they batted well to knock off the runs, with overs to spare, and then then heavens opened. Few people enjoyed the experience, but at least a game of sorts was played. PJB 2 aug 08 Milsted (H) League Milsted got 221-8 in their overs and we were all out for 191 in the 44th. They probably got too many, with their tail enders getting vital runs. And on a drying wicket chasing 221 was going to be tough, but Greg (55), Sentil (78) were notable contributions. Les got 4 wickets. Anon 26 July 08 Lenham (A) League Lost the toss and were put into the field. With a limited number of recognised bowlers we did well to to keep them to 224/6, mainly due to all round good fielding, plus a nice spell from Mark Meyrick (44/1 off 11) and a tight finish from Rich Truelove (27/3 off 5). From there it looked more than chasable on a superb wicket and lightning outfield. Some ellegant batting from Paul Edwards (70) and powerful hitting from Senthil Muniasami saw us reach the target with 5 overs to spare for the loss of just 2 wickets. Senthil making 102 n.o. in a faultless innings, supported by Truelove (28 n.o.). Back on winning track! AS 19 july 08 Boughton and Eastwell (H) League Won the toss and elected to field. We had them reeling at 70 for 7 as the opposition played a series of poor shots. However, from there they were allowed to recover to get 154 off their full allotment of overs. Still not a problem, you would have thought, so long as we batted properly, but sadly we didn't, eventually ending up all out 9 runs short with 7 balls still to face. Not pretty, and any hopes of going up now seem lost. PJB 15 July 08 Bearsted (A) 20/20 Final at Hollingbourne Ouch! The 20/20 final at Hollingbourne slips from our grasp. Restricting Bearsted to 115 for 8 off their allotted overs and getting to 66 for 1 off 11 of ours we looked odds on to retain the trophy, but cricket being cricket, Bearsted fought back and we ended up 2 runs short. An excellent final played in good spirit. "We'll win it again next year" (A. Smith 2008) 12 July 08 Horton Kirby (A) League Lost the toss and were put in the field. They achieved 244 for 5 over their overs, and in many ways it should have been many more as our outcricket was poor dropping several gift chances. In reply, however, our batting was purposeful and when we passed 200 with 6 overs still to play and Matt Brooke (21) and Senthil Muniyasamy (69) going well we looked favourites, however, when Senthil went the home side celebrated hoping their chance had come. We could not maitain our resolve and ended 20 runs short, being all out in the last over. PJB 5 July 08 Marden (A) League Vice-captain Ian Prideaux elected to field: Good bowling and outcricket saw Marden reach 206 for 7 at tea. In reply, several players 'got in' but could not go on and make the big score nessesary to successfully chase down their score ending on 173 all out. 28 June 08 Willesborough (H) League Elected to field. At 108 for 2 they seemed to have the upper hand, but moments later they were 120 for 9, finally reaching 135 all out. After a well crafted tea (thanks to Paul Edwards and Sainsbury family) we set about their target with each of our batters playing their usual game. Greg Snape (a well constructed 24), Colin Fry (a frisky 46) Paul Edwards (a six then holing out at deep square), Senthil (elegantly smoting 30no) and Ian Prideaux ("what's a dot ball?" 12no). Did you know? Every one of the seven games we have batted second this year, we have won! 24 Jun 08 East Sutton (H) 20/20 Elected to field. Good bowling all round, especially from Marlay Nemane geting a well deserved 3 wickets, restricting the opposition to 104 for 7. In reply, the openers Steve Smith and Matt Brookes got us going and with some quick running at the end we needed 6 off the last over; Alan Smith calmly knocked the first ball for 4 to take the pressure of to enable us to win with four balls to spare. Semi-final here we come. 21 June 08 Selsted (H) league Won the toss and elected to bowl, even though initially we only took to the field with eight players! Selsted started well on a big score looked possible, but some tight bowling and clever out-cricket, saw the runrate fall along with the occasional wicket. THey were eventually dismissed off the last ball on 185. In reply, Greg Snape made a pedestrian 27, as opposed to a similar score by Colin Fry in doubole quick time. When Senthil came in, the run rate was never going to a issue as long as we did not squander wickets, which was how it panned out, reaching their score for the loss of 4 wickets. Senthil was man of the match. PJB 17 june 08 Hollingbourne (A) 20/20 Won the toss and batted. The home side looked set for a big score rattling along at 8 an over, but fortunately the openers were the bulk of their bating, and as the middle order were exposed the run rate dropped, eventually limping to 101 for 9. Champagne moment: Alan Smith's run out of their No.2. In reply we coasted to their score for the loss of only one wicket. A place in the semi-finals now looks safe. PJB 14 Jun 08 Leeds and Broomfield (A) League Lost the toss and were asked to field. John Hartson made some useful runs but when Geoff Hunt was well caught (J Webb) on the deep midwicket boundary it looked like we could keep their score to very manageable proportions. They were finally all out with the last ball of the innings for 174. In reply, Greg Snape went first ball and their tails were up, but this was short lived as aggresive batting by Senthil and Colin Fry rattled on the runs before both were dismissed when the score was 95, but there was going to be no wobble as we convincingly ran out winners by 6 wickets. A fine performance by all, all round, a few sharp chances were put down in the field, but this time it did not prove costly. PJB 10 June 08 Linton Pk v WF 20/20 Lost the toss and fielded. After getting rid of the dangerous openers, we were able to ristrict the home side to 124 for 8, with Jimmy Emmitt being the pick of the bowlers. Mark Christmas finishing unbeaten at the end on 50. In reply, we were always in control knocking them off on a good batting wicket with two overs to spare. Senthil Muniyasamy 37 making the biggest dent in their total. PJB 7 June 08 WF v Cobham Won the toss and batted. Colin Fry(43) quickly got the runs moving, but after he was given out, wickets always fell and we did well to bat out our overs for 123 for 9. In reply, Cobham, who had not successfully chased such a score all season, never looked in trouble. However, when late wickets fell, it seemed they did not have much strength in depth, so it was a shame to drop more catches, none staightforward, but nonetheless, disappointing not to hang onto one. The introduction of Wyne Orlando and Martin Hoare did give the side a more balanced look, however. Lost by 7 wickeets. 31 May 08 Milsted v WF Lost the toss and were put into bat on a flat, but wet and slow wicket. A slow start saw 3 quick wickets fall, all of which were given away! A long stand between Steve Smith and Rich Truelove (22) saw us reach 64/4, but afew crazy shots later and another runout saw us collapse to 81 all out. A hard total defend, but we had one from this position before, and all looked good with Jack Rollo striking with first ball of the innings and again in the 3rd over to have them 7/2. However their Skipper saw them home and they reached them off 24 overs, 87/3. Back to basics with the batting next week! AS 24 May 08 WF v Lenham (H) League Won the toss and batted. A very solid start by Greg Snape (58) and Senthil Muniyasamy (44) got us to 135 for 2, from where we managed to get to 219 for 9 with, in part, a healthy knock of 26 from Alan Smith. In reply, Lenham looked on course with 20 overs to go and 9 wickets left wanting 120, but as the run-rate crept up, so did the fall of wickets, until at the end they were 15 runs short. Paul Taylor stepping up to the plate 4th change, to ease any nerves the skipper had of them reaching our target. Two wins out of three, dizzy times! PJB 20 May 08 WF v Bearsted (H) 20/20 We were restricted to 122 for 8 off our 20 overs. Restricted, as no-one was able to get in long enough to make a big score, due to some excellent outcricket by the visitors. In reply, they only gave a couple of sharp chances in the last few overs, reaching our total with all wickets intact and 10 balls to spare. However, another day the result could have been so different, such is our capability in this form of cricket. PJB 17 May 08 Boughton and Eastwell (A) League Funny game cricket: Firstly, it should have been called off, like the reserves, due to the persistent overnight rain, and during the long drive down in the wet, things did not look good. However, the heavy rain stayed away, and the light drizzle that did come did not interupt the play. The game, however, was thankfully limited to 35 overs each. Won the toss and batted. The opening four all got a start, and in particular, Paul Edwards and Senthil Muniyasamy looked in good nick, but wickets began to fall, and what looked like 140 became 109 all out off the last ball. In reply, they got to 58 for one and cruising, then Senthil got two caught out in his last over, and suddenly this soon became 61 for 6. At 86 for 6 with 5 overs left, it was anyone's game, but fortune favoured the visitors as we took cruicial wickets restricting them to finally trail by 14 runs. A good bunch of blokes to play cricket with (some of whom we missed due a wedding of theirs, note, weddings are for Sundays!). "Catches win matches" Not in this game; more practice needed. wf 25pts PJB 13 May 08 Cowdray CC (H) Friendly 20/20 When Gary French asked if we could organise a friendly evening fixture, with a team run by a mate from work, what we got and what I expected were not the same at all: these boys were good! It was like Matt Coles at Bearsted last year, and some, they all seemed to be able to spank it all over the place. They got 212! In reply we got 148, but I think they were being a little kind. However, very good fun, and they seemed a good bunch of lads. We look forward to a return fixture down in Tonbridge soon! 10 May 08 Horton Kirby (H) League Won the toss and elected to bat (no choice due to the several late arrivals!!). A bright start from Ian Prideaux and Paul Edwards but two collapses put paid to any thoughts of a big score. Eventually being toppled for 89, which was never going to be enough on a good track. Senthil Muniyasamy ripped out their opener first ball, but we could not put them under any further pressure, which was not helped by dropping three or four sharp chances. They eventually (32 overs) reached our total for the loss of two wickets. wf 1pt PJB 3 May 08 Underriver (H) Friendly Won the toss and put them in. It took the visitor until the stroke of tea to amass 108 all out. In reply, early wobbles were overcome Senthil Munyasamy (68) and Paul Baines (30no) seeing us home with 4 wkts to spare |
